Thailand
Thailand (or Siam), truly the “Land of Smiles”, draws visitors with its irresistible combination of breathtaking natural beauty, cultural heritage, robust cuisine and friendly Thais.
The country occupies an area of 513,115 square kilometers and lies in the heart of Southeast Asia. It is divided into four natural regions- the Mountainous North; the High Northeast Plateau; the Central Plain; and the Peninsular South. Thailand has 76 provinces which are further divided into districts, sub-districts and villages. Bangkok is the capital city and centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. It is also the seat of Thailand's revered Royal Family, with His Majesty the King recognised as Head of State, Head of the Armed Forces, Upholder of the Buddhist religion and Upholder of all religions.
Thailand’s rich cultural heritage dates back well over a thousand years. Thai dance, music, sculpture and architecture are famous for being simultaneously extravagant and restrained. This is certainly a country of striking contrasts – from tribal villages to bustling cities, from secluded beaches to crowded nightclubs, from ancient temples to modern skyscrapers, from floating markets to modern malls.
Also peppered with many islands, Thailand’s many ports service both commercial and leisure market. To date, there are 10 ports with immigration facilities to facilitate any sea lover’s many adventures.
