FAVOURITE BEACHES There are three well-known beaches in Myanmar - Ngapali Beach, Ngwe Saung Beach and Chaungtha Beach. These are on the west coast of Myanmar, on the Bay of Bengal. Ngapali Beach is a 45 minute flight northwest from Yangon and during the high season, domestic airlines make connections from Bagan or Heho airports. Located on the Rakhine coast, near the small town of Thandwe, it is an unspoiled beach of white sand and swaying palm trees. Stretching over 3 km, visitors may swim in the turquoise sea of the Bay of Bengal. There are no jet skis or noisy motor boats to spoil the serenity and tranquility of this untouched beach. There is a good range of quality deluxe hotels. There are a couple of interesting fishing villages which can be reached by bicycle or by car. There is an elephant camp near the town of Thandwe which is an attractive departure for those who are tired of the sun and sea. Ngapali Beach is a great place to end a Myanmar tour while relaxing with the sea, sun and sand amidst peaceful surroundings. RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATIONS
Ngwe Saung Beach has become popular with tourists over the last three years as the quality of the beach, sand and sea is comparable to Ngapali Beach. There is a good range of quality deluxe hotels. The beach could be reached by car (about 5 hours drive) from Yangon, or by a tourist ferry which would make an overnight trip (please note that the boat may not operate if there are insufficient bookings). A new domestic air carrier Air Bagan, has started flying to Pathein on a regular basis during the high season. The flight is a 25 minute flight to the city of Pathein followed by a one hour car transfer to the beach. Like Ngapali Beach, the beauty of the beach is unspoiled and visitors can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Chaungtha Beach is located 31 mile to the west of Pathein in the Ayeyarwaddy Division. The best way to get to Chaungtha is by car from Yangon. Yangon to Pathein is about a 5-hour drive through the delta regions of Ayeyarwaddy Division while Pathein to Chaung-tha takes about 2 hours. A regular double-decker boat leaves Yangon at 4pm every evening and reaches Pathein early the next day. Due to its easy accessibility from Yangon, Chaungtha Beach receives both local and international visitors annually. SPORTS Yangon Pun Hlaing Golf Club Just 8 miles from the city centre of Yangon, this 650 acres natural peninsula framed by two scenic rivers, is the spectacular Pun Hlaing Golf Estate.
