About ASEANThe Association of Southeast Asia Nations or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok. The members of the association are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Formed with the aim to promote peace and to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural developments in the region, the ASEAN region now has a population of about 559 million, a total area of 4.5 million square kilometers, a combined gross domestic product of almost US$884.3 billion, and a total trade of about US$1,224.9 billion.
